What you need:
-(2) 3/16" bungee cords
-drill w/ 3/16" bit
-punch to mark holes before drilling
-FIRE!
-measuring device
-ratchet w/ 10mm Socket
-#2 Philips Screwdriver
-small flat head screwdriver
-large flat head screwdriver for prying
-door panel tool (optional but it helps)
1. Remove false floor, parcel shelf, & spare tire cover, then lay passenger seat down.
Note: We are drilling the holes first in order to have a stable work piece.
2. Measure to your desired location for bottom bungee. We measured 1" from the bottom. Then use the punch to mark for drilling. (Drill bit likes to move on the slippery plastic)
Make sure both sides are the same height. (this can be tricky)
3. Drill the first set of holes, be careful not to go TOO deep. That's what she said ;)
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT: Be sure to drill 90 degrees perpendicular to the plastic on the front holes. This keeps the drill bit from moving.
4. Measure to your desired location for top bungee. We measured 2 1/4" from the bottom bungee, 3 1/4" total from the bottom.
AGAIN: THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT: Be sure to drill 90 degrees perpendicular to the plastic on the front holes.
5. The darker piece (thanks to the flash) is the piece we are removing. Note the four plastic clips.
6. Raise the center part of the 4 clips using the small flat head.
7. Use the door panel tool or larger flat head screwdriver to gently remove the 4 clips.
8. Gently lift and remove.
9. Remove the cargo anchor using the 10mm socket and ratchet.
Note: These are just plugs, and DO NOT need to be removed.
10. Gently pull weather stripping loose. This helps in putting the panel back in.
11. There's a screw under there! Take it out using the Philips after gently prying the cover loose.
Note: There is NOT an airbag behind this piece.
12. Locate the 3 clips on the top piece and gently pry loose.
Note: The 3rd clip is a little tricky to find.
13. Note location of the two clips on the bottom piece and gently pry loose.
Note: it is not necessary to remove the entire panel. This saves you from having to fiddle with the ACTUAL airbag which is beside the passenger seat.
14. Tie a VERY tight knot at one end of each bungee, and melt the ends using FIRE!
Note: Don't actually light your work on fire. That would be counter productive.
15. Feed bungees through holes as shown here. There is a decent amount of room for your hand/arm, more than the picture shows.
16. Feed bungees through the other holes as shown here.
17. Pull bungees to your desired tightness and tie off. Be sure both bungees are equally tight.
18. Reassemble
